Trump comments on Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions

U.S. President Donald Trump has highly praised Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir. He remarked that Pakistan is responding very effectively; otherwise, he would have intervened himself.

When asked whether the United States might intervene in a potential conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan, President Trump said he could intervene if he wished. However, he emphasized that his priority is the “very good relationship” he has with Pakistan.

Trump stated:

“I could intervene. But you know, my relationship with Pakistan is very strong. Very, very strong. They have a terrific Prime Minister and an outstanding General—two leaders I truly respect a lot.”

Trump believes that Pakistan is taking strong action in the fight against Afghanistan. For this reason, Washington is not eager to intervene at this stage.

According to the Pakistani military, their ongoing ‘Operation Ghazab‑e‑Lil Haq’ has so far resulted in the deaths of 274 Taliban fighters and other armed group members, with over 400 more injured. Afghanistan has also reported casualties among Pakistani troops. Tensions between the two countries remain high.
